[Research on Polish press in MA and BA theses defended in the Institute of Scientific Information and Library Science, Pedagogical University of Cracow, in years 1977-2004]

The article brings up the large number of theses that deal with the widely understood topic of the press. As the author notices, out of 2313 seminar papers, 666 concentrate on that subject. In most cases the papers are monographic works on particular periodicals or synthetic works discussing the history of the press in a given town or region. There are also papers of a different character, i.e. bibliographical press analyses. In some papers the authors focused on problems of the book, culture, literature and science and technology popularization in Polish magazines. The press publications analysed in these works were addressed at a varied range of readers, discussed varied subjects, and had varied circulation. Authors of the theses employed a wide range of research methods and research tools, which may be of great value to future synthetic works on the subject.
