Abstract

The main objective of the research was to determine the relationship between the media and a person’s cultural identity and their participation in culture. The pilot study was conducted in the 2019/2020 academic year using an original online survey among 150 students of the Pedagogical University of Krakow. The research allowed us to answer research questions about the relationship between content transmitted via social media and the formation of a person’s cultural identity and their participation in various cultural events. The results allow us to state that respondents are eager to look for cultural content in the media, mainly in the field of physical, material, spiritual and social culture, and activities in the field of shaping cultural identity can, and even should, be carried out using social media; social portals play a significant role in creating a bridge between students and culture, participate in promoting cultural activities and take on the role of authorities and promoters in transmitting cultural content that builds cultural identity.
