Abstract

In the subject literature it is quite easy to find materials analysing the topics of research undertaken by representatives of the discipline Library and Information Science, both in Poland and abroad. Issues related to diploma theses are less frequently discussed, especially those completed in first and second cycle studies according to the Bologna system. The research undertaken by the author is intended to fill this gap to some extent. It was decided to indicate the main directions of research by graduates of studies in the field of library and information science in Poland by analysing bibliographic record elements of theses defended in 2023 and then deposited in the Archives of Diploma Theses.

By using the method of content analysis of bibliographic records (title, keywords and abstract) and analysis of the content of university LIS institutes’ websites, it was possible to distinguish three main areas of interest: library science, information science and social communication and media. The most frequently undertaken topics included: social media, publishing market, information behavior, literature from a publishing perspective, information architecture, usability, information management, promotion of books and magazines, books for children and young people. A common feature of the works is a high degree of interdisciplinarity. Project-type works are gaining popularity at both levels of studies – they constituted 7.7% of the entire analyzed material.
