This article explores the potential of WordPress as a teaching tool that bridges the theory of information science with the practice of information system design. It presents a case study of two academic programs offered at the Institute of Information Science at the University of National Education in Krakow—Information Architecture (AI) and Information Management and Digital Publishing (ZIiPC). Based on course syllabi, curricula, and course descriptions from the 2022/2023 academic year, the competencies developed in both programs were mapped and compared to the requirements of working within the WordPress environment. Particular attention was given to courses that develop skills in information organization, interface design, SEO, responsive web design, and the implementation of custom post types, taxonomies, and faceted navigation. The analysis demonstrates that the systematic use of WordPress enables students to apply theoretical knowledge about information structure, metadata, and user needs in the creation of functional websites and web applications. As such, the WordPress platform serves as a digital competence laboratory, supporting the development of technical and analytical skills essential in today's labor market within the fields of information, digital media, and web technologies.
