Professor youtuber. Characteristics of the ‘Dudek o Historii’ channel's message

Abstract

One of the ways in which the dissemination of academic knowledge and research is practised on the YouTube platform is through channels that popularise history. Here, the example is taken of ‘Dudek o Historii’ [Dudek on History], which was launched in November 2022 and is devoted to the contemporary history of Poland. Despite its somewhat traditional formula, this popularisation project has proved successful. The text is an introduction to research aimed at finding the sources of the success of this popularisation project and its importance for the popularisation of history and scientific research. The first part of the article presents the genesis of the channel. The second part characterises the message used in the context of the online vlog genre and compares it to that used on other popular science channels.
