On the transformation of libraries in a futurological perspective

Abstract

The transformation of libraries is inevitable. Many of the library branches have successfully found themselves in a new global perspective, developing regional and local activities, closely engaging in work with individual users. In the article, the author discusses the topic of libraries in the future at four levels: global, regional, local and individual. The analysis, based on selected documents, led to the statement that the vision of the libraries in the future puts great emphasis on knowledge and real needs of local communities, as well as on the need of regular advocacy for libraries and also on overcoming internal and external barriers.
